25 Days 2 Christmas - Surprise!

"That night there were shepherds staying in the fields nearby, guarding their flocks of sheep. 9 Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terrified," Luke 2:9

I am not great at keeping secrets. I have a tendency to spill out way too many hints to other family members about what gifts will be coming their way. Nancy, my wife, exclaimed to me the other day, "Can you just let one of your presents be a surprise for me?"

Lesson learned. I think that is the challenge of Christmas every year. Unlike the shepherds, who were to say the least surprised to the point of being terrified by the angelic announcement, we may likely enter this season, at worst, with contempt or, at best, with boredom.

Let the news of Christ birth catch you by surprise once again.
Do what ever it takes to capture the heart of this season. God is among us. "The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!" Luke 2:11

An old Corn Flakes commercial had this line: Taste them again for the first time. In light of that ad maybe the word for all us this Christmas is this: Worship again for the first time.

Prayer: "Lord God, fill my heart with the awe and wonder that our Savior was born."

Gift to others: Surprise someone with a handwritten note of encouragement and thanks!
